Each year, the Truth in Millage (TRIM) notice is mailed to all property owners in mid-August. Property owners should promptly examine the TRIM notice once it is received to verify that pertinent information (i.e. homestead exemption, values and classifications) is correct.
If the property owner feels there are any discrepancies with the information listed on the TRIM notice, then our office should be contacted to discuss the requested changes. Should our office and property owner be unable to come to an agreement on the changes, then a petition with the Value Adjustment Board (VAB) can be filed within 25 days of the TRIM notice mailing. The VAB petition deadline date is listed on the top of the TRIM notice.
The St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller’s Office manages the VAB process. Additional VAB information is available on the office’s website, including the petition application.
